Les certitudes

(Discreet Editions – Léo Dupleix, Juliette Adam, Judith Hamann – FR/AUS)

Juliette Adam on clarinet, Judith Hamann on cello and Léo Dupleix on harpsichord are Les Certitudes. Their music focuses on tones and tuning, working through long musical forms made up of layers and slowly displacing matters. Their music is composed by Léo Dupleix, while the musical direction is the result of a collective spirit. The ensemble came to life in 2021 as a means for developing acoustic music focusing on justly tuned tones and harmonies, taking as a starting point the physicality of instruments – resonating wood and metal. Their debut album Construire Sur Les Ruines D’un Passé Encore Fumant on Discreet Editions beautifully proves their musical point, it being a collection of strangely and differently harmonic pieces that are focused on a gently distorted sense of repetition and musicality.

Myriam Van Imschoot & HYOID

(Newpolyphonies – BE)

For newpolyphonies, Myriam Van Imschoot was inspired by insects, climate marches and the recent manifestations against cutbacks in the arts and in society. Her guiding principle is not the loud chanting of the crowd, but the experience that each individual, like a link in a chain, can set a vortex of sounds in motion. In newpolyphonies, polyphony is both the trigger and the question. How can we understand this musical legacy today? What is the potential of harmony? newpolyphonies is a meditative, machinic, messianic, mimetic and mesmerizing piece.

Myriam Van Imschoot makes performances, creates sound poetry and vocal pieces, exhibits video and sound installations. She holds a unique position in the Belgian art field, moving between institutional fields and media, with a keen interest to experiment with contexts when not creating her own. HYOID is a Brussels-based group of vocal soloists specialized in new music. The classically trained singers’ vast experience and extended techniques enable HYOID to approach every production with an open mind. The group challenges and expands traditional concert formats.
